New Corsage Sash

Back in the Autumn last year I exhibited at the Alternative Wedding Fair in Cambridgeshire. As always I wondered around all of the stalls before the doors opened on the look out for beautiful things and innovative ideas. Very near to my stand I met the wonderful Fran from Fancy Freckle. I love her work, it's very unique and stunningly beautiful, she has a huge potential to do so well in the wedding industry.

I've been considering adding another option instead of the sashes on my dresses for a while now and when I saw the stunning corsage sashes that Fran makes I knew that they were absolutely perfect. I'm taking this one along on the next photo shoot where it will be officially added to the collection, but these sashes are available to add to your order now. You can either have one of these stunners instead of a sash, or you add the sash to your order. One idea would be to have the corsage during the day and then the wide silk sash for dancing in the evening.

Holly with a Willow green sash

I met the bride who will be wearing this dress at a wedding fair at the end of last year. She was all set for a long engagement and was having a great time looking for ideas and getting excited. When she tried on the dress her Mum and I just knew it was perfect for her. I knew that i'd be receiving an email one day from her to order the dress, but I didn't expect it to be quite so soon! When she said the wedding was in May I was surprised but oh so excited for her.

So here's her lovely dress!

It's the Holly design with a Willow green sash and a pale green petticoat. The petticoat is trimmed with the same fabric that the sash is made from, it's the first time i've tried this and it looks really pretty. On this petticoat it's just on the outside layer, but it could be put on all 3. I don't think it would be possible with a slubby dupion, but looks great with this smooth one. As always, just ask!

As this bride is petite the skirt is 2" shorter than standard and the bodice is shortened slightly at the shoulder - custom made to be perfect for her. I can't wait to see this dress in action, such a lovely couple and their wedding is going to be beautiful.

I'm so glad I didn't have to wait long to see these photos as I loved this dress and the bride is just gorgeous. Carlene was lucky enough to fly out to Vegas for a lovely intimate ceremony with her new husband and then came home to a party with her friends and family. Such a brilliant excuse to wear the dress twice.

Carlene wore the Grace style dress in pale Ivory silk satin with a gorgeous Cornflower Blue sash - my new favourite!

Holly with a small bow Ivory Sash

I posted a dress very similar to this a couple of weeks ago, and it just goes to show how even a dress in the same style and the same colours can look so different just by tying the bow in a different place.

This dress is Holly with an Ivory Sash tied in a short little bow at the back of the dress and with a 3 layer pale ivory petticoat. It's a very pretty dress (and oh how I wish it would ever fit me), such a simple Audrey Hepburn Silhouette and the bride is going to look so beautiful on her big day.

Pale Ivory lace and Violet Sash - new design?

Brides often ask for slight customisations to the design of one of my dresses, but sometimes the customisations they ask for lead to a whole new design. This is one of those dresses. This dress is the Josie design made with a paler lace, no sleeves and a V shape in the neckline. Other than that the pattern is exactly the same. I love it so much that I want to add it to the collection with its own name, and possibly its own photo shoot at some point in the future.

The bride chose a bright purple (Violet) sash to finish the look off, with a short bow at the back. The bodice is quite low cut with a V reaching down to it. The back is also slightly different with a shorter V shape to reflect the front of the dress. The dress is finished off with a hidden, 2 layer, pale ivory petticoat.

This lace can also be used on the Josie dress and even as a skirt overlay on any of the designs.

Now we just need to think of a name for this dress, I'm thinking of starting it with a J so that the connection with the Josie dress is kept.

Holly in Ivory Silk Satin with Ivory Sash

Happy New Year! 2012 is set to be the best year of my life and what a great way to start it with lots of lovely dresses lined up to make for Spring and early Summer brides. So here's the first one of the year!

I met the bride who is going to wear this dress and the Designer Vintage Bridal Show is Birmingham last year. As soon as she tried the sample on I knew it was perfect for her and I was so pleased when she came back to me a few weeks later to ask me to make her dress. I love Ivory on Ivory - I wore it for my own wedding and just loved the simplicity. It also really shows how different the Holly style can be when you add and take away colour from the look, it really is a timeless design.

Now to decide which dress I shall work on next. I have plenty of stunning fabrics and colours to come over the next couple of months, from Violet to Teal, some beautiful new lace and even a rainbow petticoat. Hopefully some real brides to feature as well (come on girls send me your photos!), a photo shoot if I can squeeze it in and fingers crossed for a new website as well. 10 weeks until this baby is due, best get sewing...

Well as another year draws to a close I would just like to shout out a huge Thank You to everyone who has supported Lizzie Jayne this year. It has been an absolute whirlwind from photo shoots to wedding fairs with lots of fabulous and very beautiful brides in between. Thank you to everyone who has supported Lizzie Jayne up to this point.

Earlier this year my dreams started to become a reality and I finally started working on Lizzie Jayne on a part time basis rather than squeezing it into my holidays, weekends and evenings. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity as it gives me time to get creative and take on more bridal orders. My Mum also came on board with her button bouquets, which have been a hit. Many of next years dresses have been ordered with button bouquets to match.

Later in the year I had the most exciting personal news - I'm having a baby! Come March i'll be a a working mother of one and taking on a whole new challenge. I've found all of my 2012 brides so supportive and I'm so excited about all of their weddings. The first couple of months next year (which are usually my quiet months) are going to be full of Spring and early Summer brides, I can't wait to see you all in your beautiful dresses!

So, here's a quick recap of some of 2011's highlights, may next years collage be twice as long and full of even more beautiful smiling faces! Happy Christmas!

Holly with Aubergine Sash

I have quite a few dresses that i'm working on at the moment, and half of them are the Holly design. So if you love the classic Audrey Hepburn silhouette then you're in for a treat over the next few months. So to start you off, here's the beautiful Holly design with a 3 layer ivory ribbon trimmed petticoat and a very deep Aubergine sash. Lovely combination.

I particularly love ribbon trimmed petticoat with the Holly style as it compliments the smooth neckline and silk satin perfectly. Ribbon trim can be added to any petticoat in pretty much any colour, just make sure you ask for this to be added when you order.

I can't wait to see this dress on the gorgeous bride when she comes for her fitting in February. We met at the Alternative Wedding Fair and the style is just perfect for her.

Burgundy and Black Maternity Dress

This dress has been a long time in the making and the result was absolutely worth the wait! As soon as this blooming bride has sent me the photos I'll fill you in on the full story, but for now let's have a peek at some gorgeousness!

I've never made a maternity dress before, so when the bride informed me that she would be almost 6 months pregnant on the big day I jumped at the chance of a challenge. Being pregnant myself made me feel even more confident that I could make this work.

The main difference in the dress is that the skirt is cut from the underbust with a very narrow 'waist band' rather than being cut from the waist. The front is slightly longer than the back (which is why I haven't finished the hem in these photos, a bump fitting was essential to get this right) and the petticoat sits at the underbust instead of the waist. We've also fitted the dress just a couple of weeks before the wedding to ensure it's perfect on the big day. Other than that, the dress is identical to the original design. Except the colour... did I forget to mention the colour?

When the bride said 'Burgundy' I became so excited. This fabric is simply gorgeous. It is a red shot with black and the texture is just incredible. It's been all about the shot silks this week with the cornflower sash, and now this beautiful burgundy. The black sash and ribbon trimmed petticoat work so perfectly with it and when the bride came to pick up the dress today it was just absolutely perfect for her. Maternity fishnets were mentioned, and wait till you see the head dress that she's had made with some of the left over fabric.

I almost can't wait for Christmas to be over just so I can see some photos of this beautiful blooming bride, she really is going to be the show stopper on the big day.

Grace with Cornflower Sash

I've been eyeing up the Cornflower silk dupion for a while, hoping for an opportunity to work with it. I was right to be excited, it is a truly beautiful colour. The bride who ordered this dress chose the pale ivory silk satin. It is just off white, with a very very slight ivory tone to it, I always think it looks like snow. It's the perfect colour if you want to wear white, as pure white tends to wash out skin tone.

The cornflower blue works so well with the pale ivory satin. It's been a while since I made Grace without a halterneck, so it was lovely to work with this design again. This lucky dress is jetting off toVegas straight after Christmas. Do you think I could squeeze into the suitcase?

Gwen contacted me looking for a dress that would match her fiances kilt. I absolutely loved the idea, so together we chose the correct tartan and I used this to make the sash for the dress. I love the way this has turned out, she looks so gorgeous stood next to her new husband. This lucky bride flew out to California, where her family live, for her wedding (my dresses get to travel to some amazing places).

Rachel was such a lovely bride to work with. She knew exactly what she wanted but was relaxed throughout the entire process. I absolutely love the setting for this wedding, it is such a stunning setting which shows off the British countryside at its very best. I love a good haystack at a wedding, they are just the perfect photo opportunity.

Rachel wore the June style made from ivory silk satin and a custom coloured purple sash to match her bridesmaids. She looked absolutely gorgeous, Dan you're a very lucky man.

The Alternative Wedding Fair

At the end of October I took my husband and some beautiful dresses along to St Ives in Cambridgeshire for the first Alternative Wedding Fair. I was really excited about this fair because it breaks away from the traditional fairs in the same way that the Vintage wedding fairs do, offering a range of smaller suppliers who are in the industry because they love their work. The difference with the Alternative Wedding fair is that it offered a chance to meet suppliers who are working outside of the traditional mass market weddings but without the 'vintage' label.

St Ives corn exchange is a stunning building in rural Cambridgeshire and brides travelled from all over the country to come and see what was on offer. I was lucky enough to have a few brides who had travelled just to see my dresses, which I always love and it makes every fair so exciting for me. So big thanks to everyone that came along.

One of the best things about wedding fairs is meeting the other exhibitors. Not only do I get to spend hours drooling over their work, it's also a great opportunity to find ways of working together in the future. So after some lovely chats, we now have a venue for our next photo shoot. Emily, from the Kenton Hall Estate in Suffolk, is just starting out in the business and opening her beautiful venue for weddings next year. It looks stunning and I'm really looking forward to working with them!

The other lovely lady I met was Fran from Fancy Freckle. She makes absolutely stunning jewellery and hair fascinators, her work is incredibly detailed and very well made. She's also agreed to take part in the next photo shoot which is quite exciting. She's also fairly new to the industry, so please show your support by checking out her work and following her facebook page. This is one talented lady!

Another favourite was Ami's Cupcakes... just delicious...

Huge thanks also goes to The Vintage Wandering Company who allowed us to takes some shots of one of the dresses inside their campers. I love VW campers, owning one is a life long dream that I will one day fulfil, I can already imagine turning up to future fairs with my dresses hanging in the back!

Thanks also to Emily from Kempton Hall for modelling in these photos, she loved the Broderie Anglais dress and was desperate to try it on! The dress is June made from Broderie Anglais with a royal blue sash and a multi coloured clue 4 layer petticoat. The matching shoes were a lucky coincidence!

Designer Vintage Bridal Show 2011

Wow, it's been an amazing couple of weeks for Lizzie Jayne and i'm finally starting to digest the fantastic time i've had and start to unpack. Wedding fairs are an incredible experience where you get to meet so many like minded brides and some of the most influential and inspiring people in the British wedding industry.

The Designer Vintage Bridal show first appeared on the wedding events calendar back in February this year and it was a huge success. I was desperate to be a part of the event and so flattered when I was invited to exhibit. So a couple of weeks ago my husband and I packed up the car with stands, tablecloths, photo albums, petticoats and many beautiful dresses and set our sights on Birmingham. Edgbaston Cricket Ground isn't really the first place you'd think of when you say the word 'vintage', but its blank canvas was the perfect place to fill with wedding loveliness. The perfect sized room for the perfectly chosen exhibitors.

I had an amazing time welcoming brides to my stand and helping them into a huge range of Lizzie Jayne dresses. I love the look on a brides face when they just *know* it's the perfect dress for their big day.

During the catwalk shows the room emptied it was a great time to wonder around the venue and look at some of the amazing displays that some of the other exhibitors had put on. Right next door to me was Tobi Hannah, who brought along a beautiful and very bright range of 'occasion dresses' (perfect bridesmaid dresses).

One of the most popular stands of the day which was especially adored by the bridal bloggers, was that of Ava Event Styling. This is just a tiny taster, the flower table creation that they brought along was simply incredible.

My personal favourite was the Wedding Yurts. Simply stunning. They literally pitched a yurt in the middle of the exhibition hall, complete with dining table, champagne cocktail bar and a fully made up king size bed. It was amazing, so cosy and felt a million miles away. If I was going to plan my wedding again, a yurt would most certainly be involved!

To top it all off, there was also a catwalk showing some of the best of the vintage inspired wedding gowns. I was so lucky to have the lovely Anna model a couple of my dresses, she looked incredible.

Designer Vintage Bridal Show - this weekend!

I've just about finished preparing, and I'm now really looking forward to Friday when I pack up my car with all my dress loveliness and drive to Birmingham for the Designer Vintage Bridal Show. The event takes place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th October at Edgbaston Cricket ground.

I'm really excited about being part of this weekend, getting to meet the brides in person and seeing some of my dresses being enjoyed the way they should be. More than anything i'm looking forward to meeting all the other fantastic exhibitors who are coming along to the weekend. From the fantastic 'Meet the Bloggers', where you can meet and chat with Kat from Rock N Roll Bride and Annabel from Love My Dress to name a couple. To the stunning accessories like Rachel Simpson Shoes and Magpie Vintage Jewellery. It really is an amazing collection of the best vintage inspired suppliers in the business and I feel more than honoured to be a part of it.

New Design - Josie

Back in early summer I met a lovely bride at a wedding fair who wanted the Grace design with a lace sleeve overlay over the bodice of the dress. I loved the idea so much that I decided to add the dress to the collection! I've just finished the first sample which i'll be taking to the wedding fair next week.

This version of Josie is made from pale ivory rough silk dupion, with a dark ivory lace overlay. I love the vintage feel of this new design, and I decided to keep it simple with a matching pale ivory sash and 3 layer, ribbon trimmed pale ivory petticoat. It's another dress to add to the collection, and hopefully i'll manage a photo shoot at some point. It will be available in all the usual options with coloured sashes and petticoats, silk satin and silk dupion. This would look stunning with a full silk tulle skirt like the Rose design.

Congratulations K8t and Nic

I've been looking forward to this blog post for months, ever since I first saw the photographs of K8t and Nic's wedding on the photographers website. It was worth the wait because they've now been added to with some simply amazing Trash the Dress photos as well. I love this bride, I love the groom, I love the wedding and I am simply in awe of the amazing photographer.

K8t contacted me from Las Vegas describing the dress that she wanted, it's the Grace design with a crossover bodice customisation, a lowered back, a hot pink sash and 3 layer hot pink petticoat. The silk satin is a very pale ivory. Perfect.

After the wedding, K8t and Nic were lucky enough to enjoy a trash the dress shoot. I can't think of anything better than chucking bright paints at your new husband or wife. What a way to put a smile on your face. K8t was a bit nervous about telling me her plans for the shoot, but the way I see it is that wedding dresses are made to be worn once - if you can wear it twice then you've had double the fun out of the dress and it definitely is better than putting the dress into storage and never looking at it again (like my poor wedding dress).

Congratulations Kate and Ian

My husband has worked with Kate for years and we are so lucky to call Kate, and her husband Ian, our friends. They are quite amazing. I was so flattered when she asked me to make her dress and it was such a wonderful experience being able to see the dress through from our imaginations to being worn on the day.

Kate chose the Broderie Anglais fabric to tie in with the village fete theme for their reception. It was the perfect match for the marquee in the middle of the Malvern Hills, bunting and hay bails. We made the skirt tea length (just above the ankles) and the dress style she chose was the Grace with halterneck. A couple of slight alterations to the bodice to help the fabric sit smoothly, and the dress was perfect. Kate also wore a black sash and 2 layer black petticoat.

She also fell in love with one of the black and white button bouquets, so my lovely mum made up a bridesmaid bouquets, many many buttonholes and a stunning hair slide to match. It all went perfectly together.

It was an amazing wedding, such a wonderful reflection of the fantastic couple they are (the almost 300 dinner guests just shows how many lives they have touched in the time they've been together). The setting was perfect, the cake table filled with the loving baking of so many friends, the food, the dancing, the surprise fireworks.... I could wax lyrical about this wedding for hours. I was so excited when these landed in my inbox. I'm still yet to get around to the photo shoot of the Audrey inspired Holly dress, but the style has already featured in its own wedding. Mary chose Holly with a royal blue sash and a royal blue, ribbon trimmed petticoat. She is absolutely gorgeous!

I love wedding photos where you can see that the couple smiled for the entire day, and these are some of the most smiley happy wedding photos i've seen. Congrats guys, have a wonderful life together!

Ruby dupion dress with ivory sash and polka dots!

I love making coloured dresses, and this one particularly filled me with joy because it's bright red! You can't get much redder.

The dress itself is made from smooth ruby red dupion and the sash and underskirt are smooth pale ivory dupion with a white polka dot overlay. It's just beautiful! I've just finished and boxed this dress up so that it can jump on a plane and take itself across the pond. Lucky dress. Lucky bride.

Clare chose the June style made from the beautiful Broderie Anglais fabric, worn with a cherry red sash and a red petticoat. Red is so perfect for wedding, especially the cherry, it is such a vibrant colour and always makes the bride smile when they see it.

Her wedding looks like it was so much fun, with lots of dancing and smiley happy friends, some gorgeous handmade touches and, always a favourite, a classic VW camper. Congrats Clare!

Pale Ivory June with Aster sash and black petticoat

I love using the pale ivory silk satin, it's not quite white, but certainly not an ivory either. It's quite stunning. This dress is the June style with an aster blue sash and a 3 layer black petticoat that has a ribbon trim on all 3 layers. I know I always say it, but I love this dress. The blue and pale ivory work perfectly together and the black sash brings out the black shots in the silk sash. Another dress that I can't wait to see walk down the aisle!

I love it when my brides get married abroad, it always makes me excited that my dresses have probably been to more countries than I have!

Svenja came for a weekend visit to London from The Hague to collect her dress and I knew it was perfect as soon as she put it on. I love the red on her, perfect choice of colour and I love the way she has accessorised with even more bright red. The polka dot umbrella is a particular favourite.

June with a Scottish Twist

When I was contacted by a bride that wanted to have a tartan sash on her dress, I instantly fell in love with the idea. She said that her husband to be is Scottish and will be wearing a kilt on their wedding day, and she wanted to match. Such a cute idea!

This dress is June made from silk satin with a sewn in 2 layer ivory petticoat and a sash made from Modern Hume Tartan. I love how this has turned out and can't wait to see the photos of this lovely couple together!

I've just finished another dress! This one is for a beautiful bride getting married next month. The dress is June in Ivory Silk Satin, with a 2 layer ivory petticoat and a non-standard purple (purply red?) sash to match the bridesmaids dresses.

The photos really don't do the colour of this sash justice, it is a stunning silk which is actually created by a combination of cerise pink and black. I can't wait to see this one matched up next to the bridesmaids.

I have always considered myself to be lucky to be married to my wonderful husband just for who he is. When I started Lizzie Jayne back in 2009 he supported me in so many different ways, and one of the biggest contributions he has made is with his photography of my dresses.

Ricky Banks (my lovely husband) is a music photographer, currently working predominantly for the BBC. He has photographed some pretty big names, like Florence and the Machine, Biffy Clyro, The Streets, Noah and the Whale and Janelle Monae.

To cut to the chase, he is currently looking to build up his portfolio with images of alternative couples and brides, with the long term aim of becoming a professional alternative wedding photographer.

I love sewing with the new Broderie Anglais. It's such a unique look and absolutely perfect for a less formal summer wedding. The bride who this dress belongs to absolutely loves black, so a black sash and petticoat are the perfect look for her. She also chose to have Buttons by Lizzie Jayne for her bouquet, buttonholes and even a gorgeous hair comb! The hair comb worked out so beautifully that we're adding it to the Buttons range and I will be taking some to the next wedding fair.

This dress is the Grace with halterneck, made with Broderie Anglais and a black silk sash and 2 layer petticoat. The length of this dress is ballerina, rather than tea or knee, so the skirt sits a couple of inches above the ankle. I absolutely love it, it's perfect for the bride and I can't wait for it to be worn!

Wedding Fairs 2011

Can't decide which Lizzie Jayne dress to choose for your wedding? Want to try a few on? Come and see me at a wedding fair! I have 2 more wedding fairs lined up for 2011 for those looking for dresses for 2012 weddings. I'll also be bringing along samples that you can purchase as seen if you're getting married sooner and have flexibility with your colour scheme.

The first is the Designer Vintage Bridal Show in Birmingham on the 8th and 9th October. I am so excited about this show and honoured to have been chosen to exhibit there. Less of a wedding fair and more of an exciting wedding event, this full weekend is a really exciting place to see a beautiful range of vintage inspired ideas and services. So come along for a day out and soak up the atmosphere, get advice from wedding professionals, and, of course, come and try on your Lizzie Jayne wedding dress!

The second wedding fair that I have booked is The Alternative Wedding Fair in Cambridge on the 23rd October. This is a brand new fair so it will be really exciting to see the type of exhibitors that will be attending. It will be more of a 'traditional' (that's totally not the right word for this fair though) set up to the DVB show, and will be a great place to come and have a look if you've got some alternative ideas.

The wedding season is well and truly here... so here's a beautiful dress for an August bride. This dress is being collected tomorrow by a bride that's coming all the way from the Netherlands. I love it when my dresses get to fly to other countries as I always feel like a little bit of me goes with them.

Vintage Wedding Fair, Chiswick, June 19th

A couple of weeks ago I visited my first ever wedding fair! Exhibiting at wedding fairs is the next step for Lizzie Jayne, allowing brides to try on the dresses before making final decision about style, fabric and colours. It's a great opportunity to see a wide range of dresses and ideas in one place, and the Vintage Wedding Fair is fantastic for any bride looking for original and vintage inspired ideas.

It was a fab day with a great atmosphere. Thanks to everyone that attended and to those brides that have emailed me since - I can't wait to make your dresses! A big special thanks to my lovely friend Di, who helped me on the day and was very good at not buying absolutely everything for her wedding next summer.

Here's the stand...

The next wedding fairs will be coming up in the Autumn, which is a great time to come and look at a dress for a summer 2012 wedding. Details to follow! In the meantime, any tips? I'm thinking of having a bit of a move around with the stall next time so it's easier to access the dresses yet still see the bouquets and photos clearly. Let me know if there's anything you've seen that you think worked really well.

I've finished the last dress for the wedding fair! This one is Ivory silk dupion, with a lace edges ivory petticoat and a corsage detail and very narrow sash.

It's going to be a bit of a mad week leading up to the fair, but if I have time I'll put up a list of all the dresses that are accompanying me. I'm then away for 5 days the week after (I'm off on school journey with 35 9 year olds, wish me luck!). When I come back i'll have some very exciting news to share with you all, well it's exciting for me and I hope you'll all be happy for me!

This is another dress that i'm taking to the wedding fair. The best thing about making dresses for the fair as samples is that I get to choose the colours! I love this one, it is made from the new broderie anglaise and has a smooth royal blue sash. My absolute favourite part is the petticoat! It's a very subtle mix of different blues and a turquoise and it makes much a lovely light colour together. Love it.

The Vintage Wedding fair is only 2 weeks away and i've been working on a couple of samples to take with me for lovely brides to try on (and even buy!). It seemed like a good opportunity to have some fun with fabrics and colours that I haven't used before.

So far i'm taking the Rose dress from the photo shoot, Holly (hopefully this will be photographed before I go to the fair), the red Grace with halterneck from Louise Golbey's photo shoot, this gorgeous polka dot number, a broderie anglais June with royal blue sash (which is just awaiting its rainbow blue petticoat before I put it on here) and hopefully (time permitting) June made from ivory silk dupion. I have a very full dress room right now.

So here you go. I have to say, if I were choosing my own wedding dress all over again, this would be the one. I heart the polka dots oh so much.

I was contacted by a bride who loved my June design, but wanted to have a more 'vintage' looking dress. I suggested that she went for the rough ivory silk dupion, and she loved the honey dupion for the sash. To give the skirt a lighter feel, i sewed the 2 layer ivory petticoat directly into the skirt which encourages the dress to hang softer and makes the dress a lot lighter. Sewing the petticoat in also means that you can decide exactly how much petticoat sticks out, and it will stay that way!

She also loved the lace petti in the June photo shoot, so I sewed a lace trim on to the bottom of the petticoat. I love it, such a cute and very vintagy looking dress. The best part? Her wedding is next week! So that means we don't have to wait long to see this gorgeous dress in action.

Beth emailed me more than a year before her wedding, in fact she actually had the dress in her possession for almost a year before the big day. How she resisted putting the hot pink petticoat on and spinning round the house every week i'll never know.

She sent me these photos from her wedding and what a gorgeous explosion of pink it was! Beth wore June in ivory satin, a 3 layer cerise petticoat and a cerise sash.

Rose!

On Easter weekend the sun came out and shone beautifully just in time for Rose's photo shoot! It's taken a few weeks to get the photos ready, but at last here they are in all their beautifulness for you to enjoy.

The inspiration for the shoot was one of my favourite Banksy pieces, 'girl with a balloon'. I absolutely love the result, the colours worked so nicely and the hundreds of dandelions really brought the shoot together.

Special thanks to Nicole for being a beautiful model, and my gorgeous husband for being such a talented photographer. I hope you all enjoy looking at the photos as much as we enjoyed creating them!

Oh yes... details of the dress. Nicole wears Rose, with a full silk tulle ivory skirt and a cherry red sash.

June in Broderie Anglais and with polka dots

Wow i've been so busy that i haven't had the time to post in ages. Sorry for neglecting you. So to make up for it, here's a doubly whammy of dress loveliness.

The first is gorgeous June made from silk satin, with lots of lovely custom polka dots. The skirt has a layer of polka dots popping out the bottom and the lagoon sash has a layer of polka dots over it to bring a bit of fun to it. I love the layers in the skirt, and I love the colours. This is such an unusual and pretty dress.

The second dress is made from the new Broderie Anglais. This fabric is absolutely gorgeous and my current favourite. In fact, i love the combination with the cherry red sash so much that i'm going to make another just like it to take to the wedding fair in June. I love working with cotton, it's so much more forgiving and precise than silk and the broderie anglais is just fabulous. I'm awaiting a last minute arrival of a red petticoat to go with this dress which is really going to finish off the look.

The wedding season is now upon us so expect lots of lovely dress and bride photos over the next few months.

New Design!

This new design is inspired by the classic beauty of Audrey Hepburn. The dress that she wore in Funny Face is a timeless classic that's been screaming at me since i started making wedding dresses.

My own take on this timeless design features a boat (or slash) neck line, a full circle skirt and a 3 later black petticoat. The little belt featured in these photos is borrowed from the dress that Louise wore in her photo shoot and i'll be making a more extravagant version for the official photos of this dress. It shows how versatile the pettis, sashes, corsages and belts can be on Lizzie Jayne dresses. The back of this dress drops to a V at the bottom of the shoulder blades.

My friend Louise is an amazing singer/songwriter. You can check out her website and listen to some of her music over at www.louisegolbey.com. I promise you won't be disappointed! Over a few drinks on Christmas eve we came up with a brilliant idea - i could make her a dress to wear for her upcoming photo shoot. I could then keep the dress and use it as a sample for brides to try on at the wedding fayres this summer.

So some quick measurements sending and colour choosing later, the dress was made and send to meet her in town one day.

I'm so pleased with the results and it was lovely to work in colour for a change. The dress is made from red duchess silk satin, with a tiny black belt (it has a small flower detail on it acts as a button) and 3 layer black petticoat. I really love seeing one of my dresses featuring in a non-bridal photo shoot, and just shows how versatile the dresses can be. One of my brides even dyed her dress after her wedding and now wears it to other peoples weddings, great idea and i use cotton thread so this is (fairly) easy to do.

My husband and i don't really celebrate valentines. It's my Dad's birthday and it always made it difficult to spend time together when we were younger. Not only that, i don't need overpriced flowers to know how much he loves me. So, i decided to give you all a little (today isn't)valentines present, and it's free!

This is my favourite music video of all time, ever. For so many different reasons, and it makes me cry every single time i watch it. Well it's finally time to launch the range of button and brooch bouquets that my lovely mum has been working so hard on recently. They are all gorgeous! I'll be putting more photos up on their very own etsy shop over the next few days which you can find over here.

The bouquets will be available ready to by and to custom order. If you see something you love, and it's still on my etsy shop, it's available as seen. The price for these bouquets is £95. Or, if you want something to match your dress and colour scheme, order a custom bouquet for £115. Why not order your Lizzie Jayne dress with a matching sash and bouquet? Make sure you give us a minimum of 3 months to get your bouquet ready as sourcing the right colours and brooches can take a while!

The best thing is that if you have a vintage brooch of your own, perhaps an heirloom from a loved one, you can have this incorporated into the bouquet giving it a personal touch!

You can also have bridesmaids and button holes for the men, please ask for prices as this depends on the number of stems you would like and the number of button holes.

Vintage Wedding Fair

I'm booked into my first wedding fair, yippee!!!

I'm going to be careful about which ones i choose and try to keep them London based, probably taking part in 2 or 3 a year. I'll bring along my samples for brides to have a look at (and even try on if they're near your size), you will be able to order either a made to measure dress or buy one of the samples as seen. I'll also be bringing along button bouquets and birdcage veils (again, made to order or buy as seen).

The first wedding fair is going to be the Vintage Wedding Fair at Chiswick Town Hall on Sunday 19th June. It's sure to be a fantastic experience, with loads of inspiration and goodies. I even hear that there's going to be a tea shop with cupcakes. Yum.

It's been a while since Cat and Eikes wedding and i've been waiting desperately to get the original of these photos to put up here. I simply love them. Cat was such a pleasure to work with, such a smiley, calm and happy bride. As well as being totally gorgeous. Eike is a very lucky man!

This has been my christmas project. I love the monochrome look of a black sash on the ivory dress, it's really very beautiful. This dress is Grace with an added halterneck, a black sash and a 4 layer ivory petticoat.

I love the addition of the halterneck to the Grace design, it's so flattering and really gives the dress an extra lift.

Lizzie Jayne is branching out!

My gorgeous mum has been hard at work making stunning button bouquets from bright buttons and vintage brooches. I've decided to put these up for sale through Lizzie Jayne. 'Buttons... by Lizzie Jayne' will hopefully be up for sale at some point over the next week, just in time for Christmas.

I'm also working on a range of beautiful accessories, including birdcage veils and hairbands, to complete your Lizzie Jayne outfit. There will be available from early next year, i can't wait!

When Emma told me she was going to get married in South Africa, i was so excited about seeing the photos! The whole wedding looked amazing and Emma made such a gorgeous and happy bride. I love the colour of the sash and petticoat, absolutely the perfect colour for her.

Emma has been so lovely to work with, it felt like catching up with an old friend.

Rivoli Ballroom

Just around the corner from my house is a gorgeous old 50s ballroom. They host dance nights every week and the building is constantly being used in tv shows and music videos. A few years ago I was lucky enough to see the White Stripes play there in a 'secret gig'. It's a pretty unassuming looking building from the outside, but inside it is everything the 50s should be... big, bold and downright beautiful.

I'm hoping to contact the owners soon to see if i can strike a deal on a photoshoot. I'm sure a lot of blagging and persuasion may be required, but i'm hopeful that they'll be willing to help out a small local business. I love Brockley, we have an amazing artisitic community here and it's full of little hidden treasures like the Rivoli. And what an inspiration this venue is!

This dress is a custom order for a bride that lives in Vegas. She came to me with a few ideas, and a slight dilemma. She has piercings down her back that she wanted to show on her wedding day. So together we worked to create a design with a low back, and a crossover strapless bodice. This dress is made from porcelain white silk satin and has a hot pink sash and cerise petticoat.

I made this dress well over a year ago, in fact it was one of my first. I can't believe i've had to wait until now to see the photos, I was probably nearly as excited as the bride.

The dress is so unique, made from an Italian cotton broderie anglais. She had a black silk sash, which she wore in the evening, and a black 2 layer petticoat. Such a gorgeous bride! I have felt a part of Ediths life from the moment she decided to ask me to make her dress, despite having never met her and living on the other side of the Atlantic. Thank you Edith!

I've been looking forward to seeing these photos for a while now. They feature not just one, but 2 Lizzie Jayne dresses! Anna and her fabulous bridesmaid Hannah wore matching dresses with Anna in ivory with a cerise sash, and Hannah in a cerise dress with ivory sash.

Annas dress is Grace with the addition of a halterneck strap, made from silk satin. Her petticoat was a huge 6 layers or magenta netting, with hot pink ribbon on 3 of the layers.

This dress is about to wing its way to Japan! The bride explained to me that in Japan it is tradition to wear a white kimono during the ceremony and then a brightly coloured kimono afterwards. This represents the transition into the grooms family. As a modern take on tradition, this dress has 2 petticoats - one white and one pink. She will wear the white petti during the ceremony and the pink one after. Such a lovely way of incorporating tradition in a modern and individual way.

Katie came to me with a problem. It was less than a month to her wedding and she was desperate for a 50s wedding dress. Luckily for her, I happened to have the fabric she wanted and petticoat in stock and I was having a couple of quiet weeks and had just enough time to squeeze her in. The only problem was that she was living in Paris! Some speedy sewing and a trip over to London later and the most bubbly and happy bride i have ever met had her dream wedding dress.

Katie was married in a Jewish Synagogue and wore a sparkly silver bolero over her dress for modesty during the ceremony (a brilliant take on tradition) and, as you can see from her photos, she twirled the day away in a mound of hot pink.

New Design - Rose

I've decided to launch 2 new dresses - one this summer and one in autumn. So here is a sneak peek at the the first dress, Rose. Photoshoot to follow at the end of August (weather permitting). This beautiful dress is made from the rough ivory dupion. I love this fabric, it is such a gorgeous colour and has so much texture and 'life'. It is also really soft for a dupion and fits the description of 'raw silk' perfectly. The sesame sash is a lovely compliment to the dress. The bride has chosen a 3/4 circle skirt instead of full, which looks lovely over a 2 layer petticoat.

I've been looking forward to this dress for ages and i'm so pleased with the result. I have never made 2 dresses that are exactly the same and this is one of my more unique creations. I love the petticoat and i really want to make more. You can have this in your own choice of colours to match your colour scheme, like this bride with her rainbow themed bridesmaids. It's about to be boxed up and wing it's way over to Canada to its gorgeous bride. Bye dress, i'll miss you!

A while ago my little brothers girlfriend asked me if i could make her prom dress for her. I jumped at the chance, i've never made a prom dress before and i've also never made a dress for a friend! She chose a gorgeous ice blue for the dress, and prune for the sash. She looked amazing!

Their prom was on the same day as my husband and I celebrated our tenth anniversary, surely this has to be a good omen for them? Don't let anybody ever say that teen romances never last, i'm living proof that they do!

I mentioned the other day that i'm living in a sea of pink. So here's some more pink photos! The Grace dress and the bridesmaid dress are for the same wedding. I love the matching dress! It's the first bridesmaids dress that i've made, so i'd love to hear your thoughts. The brides dress isn't finished yet (as you can probably tell) it is going to have a halterneck as well so i'll post some more pictures when it's finished!

Rainbow Petticoat!

Annabella, my petticoat maker, is amazing! A bride contacted me saying that she's always dreamed of a rainbow petticoat to match her bridemaids who are wearing different colour dresses in shades of the rainbow. I knew that Annabella had made pettis like this before, so the bride decided to go for it.

What an amazing result! I can't wait to make this dress, it's going to be so unique.

This may just be my new favourite combination of fabrics. The dress is made from a ridgy dupion, with a ridgy dupion sash to match. The sash colour is actually a navy and ivory shot silk, which comes out as a gorgeous sea green. I love it!

Amazing V&A Catalogue

I've just been sent a link to an amazing catalogue on the V&A (Victoria and Albert) Museum's website. They're putting together an exhibition in 2013 of wedding fashion from 1840 to the present. It's an amazing collection of images all the way from Victorian to Civil Partnerships.

I just love the fabric this dress is made from. It's 'ridgy' ivory dupion, and has a gorgeous shine to it. The bride decided to add little capped sleeves after seeing the Lyndsey dress that i made recently. And not everyone is a fan of bows... so this dress has a cute knot at the front which finishes the dress off beautifully. It's the first ivory sash i've made, and it looks just as gorgeous as all the colour options!

Lyndsey with capped sleeves and Aster sash

I love this dress, the sleeves are extremely cute and give the dress a very classic 50s look, with a lower cut neckline to give it a modern edge.
After a slight change to the sleeves on this dress to make them slightly longer, she's all finished and waiting for her bride...who's getting married in just 2 weeks!

The gorgeous bride came to pick up her June with Tabasco sash today and mentioned that she was thinking of getting shoes from Harriet Wilde. What a coincidence, i thought, as Cara, whose photos were posted on here a month ago, also had some from Harriet Wilde.

So i decided that i'd post some photos of the lovelies on here. Gorgeous shoes! So perfect for tea length dresses, and so unusual! The website says they can all be dyed as well, which would be fabulous with a matching sash and petticoat. They are a little on the pricey side, but totally worth it!

I'm sure you've all been waiting anxiously for photos of the new dress, and i'm afraid i have some bad news. Things are taking a bit longer than expected and the rubbish weather in November has put the photo shoot on hold until after Christmas. I promise, it will be worth the wait!!! The hot pink petticoat is arriving tomorrow and i've been sent some photos of the button bouquet being made for the photoshoot.

I made contact with another bride a few months ago who also started a business after her own wedding - making button bouquets! I loved them so much that we decided to work together and this is the bouquet she has made. I love it!

A few weeks ago I had a gorgeous bride twirling around my living room in a half finished dress. She looked absolulely radiant despite the pins sticking out all over the place and the raw hem. A few decisions later and the sash was tied in a huge bow at the front and the pink petticoat was sticking out the bottom. Finally, it's time to see the finished article. I absolutely love this dress, the photos do it no justice at all because the colour of the shot silks is exquisite and so 'alive'.

The wedding is a while off yet, but i simply can't wait to see the photos!

Well, after 6 months of having June up for sale, it's time to add another dress to the collection! I've just worked out the pattern for Grace, which is a strapless dress with a crossover bodice. I'm going to make it with the option of have a vintage lace halterneck added. Very pretty.

I think i'm going to stop myself from taking photos of this one, and leave the final result as a suprise when the photos go up. I will give you a hint though, hot pink is going to feature! Also, i'll be selling off the dress after the photos have been taken, so if you're a size 12 (UK) and looking for a bargain, watch this space.

I'm working on a few different dresses at the moment, it's lovely to be busy!

Sage green June, in the making

I do love to use unusual colours for my dresses, so when a lovely bride contacted me with some exciting ideas i jumped at the chance. We searched high and low for the perfect colours, and now the perfect dress is starting to take shape. I've never photographed a dress at this stage of the making process before.
A toile has been fitted due to the change of shape at the back of the dress, the fabric has been cut and now the dress form (mannequin) is pretending to be the beautiful bride. The only part of the dress that is sewn at this point is the front part of the bodice. I'll post some more photos as the dress starts to take shape next week.

Polka Dots!

Well, i think i may have finally found a source for some polka dot tulle to use as an overlay on the dresses. I think i may just have to make the sample of Grace using this! I love polka dots so much. I'm planning on ordering the fabric for the new dress next week, so hopefully i'll have photos up by christmas! Petticoats

I mentioned the other day that i was thinking about using another British designer to make the petticoats for my dresses. Well, last week i ordered a couple of custom, hand made petticoats from her and today they arrived! I'm so pleased with them. They look pretty much identical to the ones i've been making, and it's so obvious that huge amounts of love and attention have gone into each one. Here they are...

The white petticoat shows the fullness of the 3 layer petticoat, the black petticoat has 2 layers. 2 layers would give you the fullness of the dress in the photos of June, whereas a 3 layer petticoat (my secret favourite) makes the dress poof out even more, making you feel like a 50's diva. Both are very cute!

So, what are your options? And how much do they cost?

Colour - have a look on my website for the full colour range. I love the idea of matching the colours of the petticoat to the colour of the sash on the dress. You could even have a multicoloured petticoat. Fabulous!

Trim - the petticoats above are shown with a lace trim on the outside edge, this is available only on black and white petticoats. If you go for a white petticoat you can also have a satin trimming on each layer, giving you that extra bit of glamour. The standard petticoat (in all colours) comes with a 'rolled' edge, this basically means the net has been rolled up to get rid of the raw net edges.

Length - the standard length for a petticoat will be 27", this will make the petticoat fall mid-calf. If you're very tall or very small, you can have it longer or shorter. If you want the petticoat to fall just below the knee, let me know and i'll make your dress shorter. It's your dress, you choose!

Prices - a standard 2 layer petticoat, any colour, with a rolled hem, will cost you £60. A 3 layer petticoat will cost £70. Satin edging on the black and white petticoats, costs £5 extra per layer.

New designs!

I've had quite a few emails recently asking for sketches of the new design. So, i decided to upload them here!

Lyndsey - You can see the first version of Lyndsey a few posts below. The final version will have a slightly different skirt on it, as from now on all Lizzie Jayne designs come with a full circle skirt!

Grace - This design is to be confirmed. It's essentially a strapless version of Lyndsey, but i need to ensure that i'm happy with the hold in the bodice before I confirm this design. So bear with me if you're interested in this design!

Helen - This dress is very similar to June, but with a lace overlay on the top part of the bodice, coming down in a V shape at the back.

All of these designs come with the option of either a dupion silk sash, or a corsage detail. Photos of the corsage options will be coming soon! As always, you get to pick the colour of the sash, corsage and petticoat!

For a strange few minutes there i had to navigate around blogger all in Czech, what's all that about? A quick google later and we're back in my native tongues, phew!

So, back to the point. I have some new photos of dress making. This is the first time i've made the June style in silk satin and it's absolutely gorgeous. The fabric is so luxurious and suits the style so well. I've also changed the style of the skirt and from now on all Lizzie Jayne dresses will have full circle skirts! Yay! I've been avoiding it up until now to avoid the seams down the side of the skirt, but the seams fall into the skirt and it will be so fun to twirl in!

So, here's the photos! It isn't finished yet, the hem needs sewing and it obviously needs those finally touches of a (cherry red!) sash and 3 layer petticoat. Then this dress gets to whizz over in a box to the States for a lovely bride. I can't wait to see the photos!

After a long wait, i finally have labels for my dresses! Very exciting, i love polka dots and these are perfect x

In other news... I'm looking to move away from making the petticoats for my dresses and i'm hoping to work with a British petticoat designer. This will mean i can offer 2 different sizes of petticoat in a range of colours. If all goes well, i'll be adding a lovely range of colours to my website soon, with some really exciting possibilities for my brides. Hopefully it will provide a wider choice, without compromising in quality. I'll keep you all updated with how this progresses.

I'm finally back after spending a wonderful 2 weeks walking in the Highlands. If any of you are into walking, i thoroughly recommend the West Highland Way. 95 miles of glorious Scottish scenery and lovely people.

Back to the dresses..... the first version of Lyndsey is finished! The final design for this dress is going to be slightly different to this version, but it will have the same neckline, just slightly different straps. The first photo is of the dress as ready for the bride, in the second photo i've put a ribbon and corsage in it. The dress will be available with either a corsage or a sash.

I hope you all enjoy....
